Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the Hungarian Organizing team, I am delighted to welcome you to the

7^th Fatty Pig & 12^th Mediterranean Pig Meeting,

the next scientific event of indigenous and premium pig production.

The meeting is taking place from Thursday, 12th September to Saturday, 14th September 2024 in Budapest, Hungary.

Many of you know much about the two series of conferences covering many fields of basic and applied research topics connected to ancient pig breeds. Breeds in the Mediterranean area as well as other European and non-European pig races have been in the focus of previous Med.Pig and Fat.Pig meetings, respectively.

The main objectives of both series of meetings were not only to discuss the latest scientific achievements, but also to highlight best practice and innovation, with special emphasis on saving or even increasing the number of endangered populations. We have also paid particular attention to finding further markets for pig breeds and products, furthermore we tried to assist marketing programs for effectively selling the premium pork.

Since there was a considerable overlap between the Med.Pig and Fat.Pig topics and several participants attended both events the idea of combining the two events this time came up logically.

The  2011, 2013 and 2015 Fat.Pig meetings in Hungary were followed by gatherings organized in Spain, Japan and Taiwan.

To our great pleasure, this year the Fat.Pig meeting will return to Hungary, providing an excellent opportunity to organize a joint event. Of course, the decision was preceded by communication between the two scientific boards.

I hope, that this ‘joint venture’ will serve as an excellent networking opportunity, providing delegates with the chance to form research and business relationships, engage in interesting discussions, and foster future international collaborations.

Dedicated breeders, biologists, vets of both the academic sector and practice, business company representatives are warmly welcome.

The 3^rd oldest vet school of the World, the University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest is pleased to host the event.

I am glad and excited indeed about the program we have put together. We are inviting poster presentations linked to the topics of the sessions. Session chairmen will evaluate the submitted abstracts for acceptance.

Colleagues attending the former Fat.Pig meetings would probably say that Hungarian organizers have always done their best to ensure a couple of memorable days for each participant.

We are promising to do the same during the 7^th Fatty Pig & 12^th Mediterranean Pig Meeting!

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION

Invited papers: We kindly ask all our invited speakers to register and submit their abstracts to the online system.

Contributing papers: We are inviting poster presentations linked to the topics of the sessions. Poster abstract can also be submitted via the online system. Session chairmen will evaluate the submitted abstracts for acceptance latest one month after the submission deadline. Authors will be notified about the acceptance.

PAYMENT INFORMATION

• all fees are quoted in Euro (€) and taxes are included. Payment in any other currency will not be accepted
• in case taxes and/or VAT change, Altagra reserves the right to change the rates accordingly
• 100% pre-payment is required on the registration and programme fees
• proforma invoice will be automatically generated and sent to the delegates from the registration system in a separate email
• the registration fee and programme fees can be paid by bank transfer at the bank account indicated on the proforma invoice. Bank charges are additional and are the responsibility of the payer.  Once the payment has been received, an invoice will be sent to the email address provided by the registrant in the billing details. The online application is considered as an order and will be subject to payment unless cancelled within the appropriate deadline
• all fees are based on the applicable fees on the date of the payment. The prices indicated are only applicable if BOTH the registration request AND payment are received before midnight, Central European Time (GMT +1), on the relevant registration deadline; otherwise, the higher registration fee will apply

 CANCELLATION CONDITIONS

• cancellations will only be accepted in writing to the following email address: fatpigmedpig@altagra.hu
• if cancellation is received by 15th of July 2024, the participation fee already paid will be refunded in total, except an administration fee of 20 EUR
• for cancellations received between 16th of July and 16th of August, a 50% technical fee will be charged or the transfer of the participation to another person will be accepted
• no refund of registration or social program fees is possible in case of cancellation is received after the 8th of August, 2024

Monte Nevado offers a prize of €1000 for the best poster presentation.

Objective of the Award:
The aim of this initiative is to support and promote basic and applied research connected to ancient pig breeds. In this call, Monte Nevado will particularly consider research focused on genetic breeds preservation, fatty pig reputation, nutrition and any other contribution that is susceptible to improve the sensorial evaluation of the final product.

It’s worth looking back at the first three conferences held in Hungary:
In 2011, the 1st Fatty Pig Meeting attracted participants from 8 countries, while in 2013 (2nd Fatty Pig Meeting) this number has increased to 11 countries. In 2015 representatives from 13 countries travelled to Hungary to participate in the conference.
The 3rd Fatty Pig Meeting was held in Herceghalom, NAIK ÁTHK, between 17-20. November 2015.
